The Lions of District 4-C1 created a camp for kids with Diabetes in 1988 at Camp McCumber. The objective of the camp was to help kids adjust to their situation and learn how to take care of themselves responsibly while living a normal life style.
For the past 31 years, the Lions of District 4-C1 have been successful at achieving the camp goal of teaching campers they can be like other youth and have fun! Camp is held at beautiful Lake McCumber, just seven miles east of Shingletown in Northern California and twelve miles west of Lassen Volcanic National Park, off Hwy 44.
This Northern California Diabetes camp offers a variety of enjoyable activities and programs such as:
- Diabetes Education
- Arts & Crafts
- Baseball & Basketball
- Hiking & Nature Study
- Nightly Campfire Skits & Camp Songs
- Ping Pong & Badminton
- Volleyball & Kickball
- Waterfront Activities
With a beautiful wooded area, lake and recreation facility, this site offers the activities of outdoor camping while supplying the comforts of home – electricity, hot showers, cozy cabins and cafeteria style meals. The camp’s elevation is 4,200 feet.
